New York: In a thrilling upset, Canada defeated Ireland by 12 runs on the ICC Men's T20 World Cup stage played at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.
Opting to bowl first, Ireland restricted Canada to a modest 137/7, en route to stunning bowling spells through Craig Young (2/32) and Barry McCarthy (2/24). Nicholas Kirton (forty nine) and Shreyas Movva (37) were the only live wickets for Canada with a vital seventy five run partnership.
Chasing a supposedly conceivable target, Ireland's batting fell spectacularly wide. Openers Paul Stirling (9) and Andrew Balbirnie (17) were swept at reasonable cost to get Ireland back on their feet. The middle order didn't make any money either, with Harry Tector (7) and Lorcan Tucker (10) falling in quick succession.
However, a defending partnership of sixty-two runs between George Dockrell (30*) and Mark Adair (34) brought Ireland back into the contest below. Despite their valiant effort, Ireland fell behind by 12 runs and Jeremy Gordon (2/20) took crucial wickets in the final over.
The win marks Canada's second ever win and secured their first ever World T20 win in form.
